First Grade
Our continuum from kindergarten to first grade is designed to deepen academic skills, foster independence, and support the whole child—intellectually, socially, and emotionally. We build on the strong foundation established in kindergarten, ensuring students are confident, capable, and curious learners.
Language Arts
Development of reading fluency, comprehension strategies, and structured writing. Students begin composing complete sentences and short paragraphs with proper grammar and punctuation.
Mathematics
Focus on multi-digit addition and subtraction strategies and fluency, place value understanding, introduction to measurement, time, and data interpretation.
Science
Evolves from observing life cycles and matter phases to exploring landforms and geology, states of matter and the biology of plants and insects.
Social Studies
Expands to include American history, culture and civics along with current events.
Social-Emotional Learning
Focuses on building empathy and cooperation through group activities, practicing self-regulation and problem-solving strategies, and developing a growth mindset and resilience.
