Second Grade
Our transition from first to second grade focuses on strengthening core academic skills while encouraging greater independence, responsibility, and critical thinking. Students deepen their understanding through more complex reading, writing, and problem-solving, while continuing to grow socially and emotionally. By nurturing perseverance, curiosity, and self-confidence, we support students as they become more engaged, capable, and thoughtful learners.
Language Arts
Advances from basic phonics to fluency, close reading, morphology, and Greek/Latin roots, culminating in three writing genres.
Mathematics
Progresses from addition/subtraction within 20 to multiplication/division within 100, fractions, multi-digit arithmetic, and geometric measurement.
Science
Evolves from observing life cycles and matter phases to exploring forces, weather systems, and specialized ecosystems.
Social Studies
Expands to current events, government processes, and contemporary issues
Social-Emotional Learning
Deepens from basic problem-solving to managing complex emotions like anxiety and embarrassment, predicting others’ feelings, and handling exclusion with greater emotional intelligence.
