Technology
STEAM / Technology
At Snoqualmie Springs School, our computer curriculum is thoughtfully designed to deepen students’ understanding of technology while supporting and enriching the learning that takes place in the classroom. We emphasize internet safety and digital responsibility, introducing these concepts in age-appropriate ways to help students become confident and ethical digital citizens.
K-Prep: Foundations Through STEAM
Our K-Prep students begin their journey into technology through engaging STEAM activities—Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. These hands-on experiences foster curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving skills. At this stage, learning is screen-free, allowing children to explore the world around them through tactile play and collaborative discovery.
Kindergarten: Building Basic Skills
Kindergarteners transition into the Computer Lab, where they begin developing foundational technology skills using laptops. Instruction focuses on:
- Mouse control and navigation
- Basic word processing: changing fonts, colors, and sizes
- Inserting and manipulating images and clipart
- Adding page borders and saving documents
Students also explore digital creativity through art programs and begin keyboarding practice with Qwerty Town, a fun and interactive typing platform. To reinforce classroom learning, students use IXL for math practice and Epic Books to strengthen reading and vocabulary skills.
1st & 2nd Grade: Expanding Digital Literacy
In 1st and 2nd grade, students build on their foundational skills and begin exploring more advanced tools and concepts:
- Typing and word processing fluency
- Conducting safe and effective internet research
- Introduction to programming logic through Code.org
They continue to use Qwerty Town to improve keyboarding speed and accuracy, while IXL and Epic Books remain integral tools for reinforcing math and reading skills. Art programs and new applications are introduced to encourage creativity and broaden their digital toolkit.
